I woke up this morning - stumbled off of the couch
I had to walk in the street because the sidewalk
was too small for me
I pick an apple out of a passing yard
that's grown upside down with the stem emerging
from the dimple
I hold it close to me
somewhere inside a voice says that apples were made
for me to eat
But aloud I reply to myself and the other 7 billion
that an apple exists to be an apple
it is not made for any other thing
It designed itself and it exists to be itself
an apple is...because it can be no other way
We are not the only ones
we are not the center of creation
we are monkeys with very poor memories
so faulty is our memory that we believe we made the
earth
we forgot we revolve around the sun
