There are a variety of specializations available for doctors including geriatrics, emergency care and surgery and the education of a doctor requires more training than almost any other profession. To obtain healthcare jobs in a field of medicine, a doctor will likely be required to undergo, at a minimum, eleven years of study. Four of those years will be spent in a pre-medical program at a college, four additional years will be spent in medical school, and a final three years spent working in a hospital will be required as well. Some disciplines require even more study and up to eight years of hospital work before training is complete.
